The new single-terminal airport marks a significant milestone for the City, because it will have a profound and lasting economic impact on the region in the form of new jobs, opportunities for local and small businesses, and the traveler experience. Scheduled to open mid-2023, the new terminal will have 39 gates with room to expand to 42 in the future, and a 6,300-space parking structure. In November 2017, Kansas City voters approved the construction of a single-terminal airport with 76 percent in favor. Over the last several decades, three studies in 1995, 2009, and 2013 explored options for airport renovations that would better meet the needs of travelers. The original three-terminal airport had become cramped and outdated since it first debuted in 1972. At just over one million square feet, the Kansas City International (KCI) Airport New Terminal project is the largest single infrastructure project in the history of Kansas City, Missouri.
